My Experience with Distance Learning

I have always been a fan of distance learning, participating in opportunities throughout my academic and professional career. It has been really interesting to see the evolution that has taken place in distance learning during my journey. My first course at the undergraduate level consisted of picking up a DVD of recorded lectures and completing online tests to demonstrate my learning. In my graduate coursework, the distance courses fully benefited from enhancements in technology, where I regularly collaborate with my peers to complete assignments and presentations. I have always looked at distance learning as a means that allows me to continue to grow and learn even though I cannot physically be in a classroom. The flexibility of distance learning also allows me to work on assignments and complete coursework when my schedule allows, an element that is not afforded to me through traditional classroom means. While I can look back on a few transformative distance courses, most always seem to be missing some element that potentially hinders learning in the course. As I begin my learning journey this semester, I look forward to learning more about how to conduct research with distance learning courses to enact change that continues to move distance learning forward as a means for effective growth and development.
