My Initial Understanding of Qualitative Research

I must say I am not as familiar with qualitative research as I am with quantitative research, other than my introductory courses and initial school work citing qualitative research. This brief exposure to qualitative research intimidates me a little when it comes to the prospect of conducting my own qualitative research. It also excites me knowing that I will learn more this semester and develop a better understanding of when it is appropriate to use qualitative research and how to design and conduct studies. One of the reasons why I have tended to focus or rely more on quantitative research is that there is already the foundation laid and an outcome or result I am trying to prove or disprove. I believe the more prescribed structure fits better with my need to recognize when results are determined, but that is not to say that I am not interested in qualitative research. I know there is a place for it within the field of learning technologies, and it has the capabilities to provide much more significant and deeper insights into the field when conducted appropriately. I look forward to all that I will learn in my qualitative analysis course and hope that I will be less intimidated in the future and become more of a qualitative research practitioner.
